How to choose the best heat protection spray for fine hair?

  • Is it more important for you to have a strong aroma or no scent?
  • Is your hair bleached and extremely dry?
  • Is your hair curly and thick?
  • Do you care about being vegan & cruelty-free?
  • Do you have delicate, flyaway hair?
  • How frequently do you style your hair using heat?

What Happens If No Heat Protectant Is Used?

  • Darker or brassy hair color: Hot temperatures without thermal protection will modify the color of your hair gradually. Heat causes hair to darken or, in the case of blondes, to turn brassy.
  • Damaged hair: Under the "pressure" of heat, the cuticle, or outside surface, of the hair will literally fracture. Heat-damaged hair appears frayed, split, and brittle under a microscope. Heat may now penetrate deep into the hair shaft, irreversibly destroying it.
  • Weak hair: Because your hair is formed of the epithelial tissue, exposure to high temperatures denatures the protein and causes it to break down. Less keratin causes weaker, less elastic hair that is easier to bend and split with little power.
  • Dry, brittle hair: Your hair naturally includes moisture and needs it to be healthy, but heat and steam damage cause that moisture to evaporate and punch through the delicate structure of your hair. It's the same thing that occurs to plants when the temperature drops below freezing.
  • Misshapen curls: Heat damage can cause "wonky" curls that lose their natural structure, become uneven, and appear less defined if you have curly hair. There will also be more frizz or flyaways.
  • Split ends: Split ends are often associated with dry, fragile hair. Using hot tools without a temperature protectant promotes evaporation of water, and when that moisture escapes as steam, it kills the ends of the hair.
